Top 9 EW Power Rankings

Entertainment Weekly has posted their power rankings for the week. Adam Lambert remains number one, while Danny Gokey was bumped down to number four.
1. Adam Lambert: (Last week: No. 1) Oh, come on now, you didn't think he was gonna drop from the No. 1 position after that riveting, emotionally devastating cover of "Tracks of My Tears," did you?
4. Danny Gokey: (Last week: No. 3) The endless stream of praise from the judges' panel ended with his somewhat clumsy rendition of "Get Ready," which could mean they're turning on the early front-runner, or might just represent an attempt on their part to appear "fair and balanced." Whatever the case, the polarizing personality hasn't missed many notes in the competition -- save for those so-so verses in "Jesus Take the Wheel." Now it's his task to start proving he's got the originality and freshness to succeed in a post-Idol world.
See the rest of the list here!

Another Funeral For Danny Gokey

Danny is on his way back to California after spending the past few days in Milwaukee. This site reports that his grandfather passed away last week and Danny was in town for the funeral yesterday. He also was able to attend church at Faith Builders. His visit was unannounced and very welcomed. Danny was happy to get to church, since his hectic American Idol schedule prevents him from being able to do so very often. Danny also mentioned being disappointed in the elimination of Michael Sarver, and looks forward to going on tour with him this summer. Our thoughts go out to you, Danny!

Danny Gokey is a Milwaukee Mentor

danny gokey ford commercial photo shootThe following news report features one of Danny Gokey's former places of employment, Journey House. Journey House is a youth center where Danny worked with kids.. in the video, some of the kids that knew Danny talk about how awesome Danny is, and some pictures are shown of Danny with the children. Seems like he's a pretty cool guy!

What does Chris Sligh think of Adam and Danny now?

Chris Sligh, from season six of American Idol, gave his thoughts on the remaining Idol contestants.
Here's what he thinks about Adam Lambert:
He might have one of the most incredible voices ever on Idol as far as range and technical skill. I think to sell records, he'll have to tone down the whole Broadway thing he has in the mid-top of his range, but he really is incredible. I remember last year being asked if America was ready for a gay Idol. I just think we've never had an openly gay Idol who was good enough. This year, Adam could win it.

And here is what he thinks about his friend, Danny Gokey:
Danny has one of the best voices ever on Idol. I think he'll have to tone down the "inspirational" thing to sell records. Clay Aiken isn't selling records any more. But his voice is so good that with the right songs and the right direction, I think the dude could be a Kelly Clarkson kind of artist. Full disclosure: Danny has become a friend, so maybe I'm a little partial. But I really like the guy.

For the rest of his thoughts on Thursday night's results show, check this site.

Guilty Pleasures

american idol top 10 season 8Here's a video of the top 10 Idols on the set of their most recent Ford commercial talking about their guilty pleasures. Adam likes Gossip Girl and Danny likes pedicures! Check it out, it is so funny.

Top 9 Theme?

american idol season 8 top 9Ryan Seacrest did not tell viewers what next week's theme will be at the end of tonight's results show but several websites are reporting that it's going to be "iTunes top 100". This thrills me... and I hope it's true! Unfortunately, I will be out of town Tuesday, so I won't be able to watch it or update the site until late that night.
Looking over the current top 100 songs on iTunes.. I'm going to have to say, it would be EPIC if Anoop sang "Jai Ho". I might have to become an Anoop fan for a night if that were to happen. Allison should sing "Decode" by Paramore.. maybe Adam could do "Careless Whisper".. I can't decide what Danny should do, or anyone else really, but hey! It's 5 am. What would you like to see them do? (It would make my life if someone sang "I'm On A Boat", "Hoedown Throwdown", "I'm in Miami, Bitch", or "STANKY LEGG". AHAHAH. Can you imagine?)
Oh! Megan should do "That's Not My Name" by the Ting Tings. and someone must do "Love Story" by Taylor Swift!

Top 10 Ford Commercial: Pocketful of Sunshine Video

Every week we get a new Ford commercial featuring the remaining American Idol contestants. This week it's about the hybrids!
and Danny looks HOT. I love him scruffy.

America Voted!

More than 36 million votes were cast last night, which is a new record.
The group performances seem to be getting worse each week.

The Bottom 3: Michael Sarver, Matt Giraud, and Scott MacIntyre.
The crowd was apalled at the fact that Matt was in the bottom three. I didn't understand it myself. Ryan asked the judges who he thought should be safe and Randy says "Matt" and the crowd screams for Matt...
and... Scott's safe. What?! Now we have to wait to see who goes home.. Matt or Michael. Wow. Suspenseful.
After a delightful performance by Stevie Wonder, and tons of commercials... aaanndd... Matt's safe!
Michael sings for his life and the judges act for a second like they might actually save him.. but Simon gave him the no. Oh well. See you on tour, Michael!

The Big Prize for the Top 10

The top 10 "American Idol" finalists say they already count themselves as winners: They've earned a place on the show's nationwide concert tour.

For Adam Lambert, the summer tour means the chance to buy a condo. Danny Gokey sees it as a financial boon as well. Michael Sarver fervently echoes that and looks forward to his version of a rock-star perq — ice cream, and lots of it.

"I have a major problem with ice cream. I should probably go to Ice Cream Anonymous meetings," he said.

Sarver and his fellow contestants laugh when asked about any divalike demands, but they're serious about the opportunity ahead of them.

"I didn't know my situation if I had to go back home without the tour. ... things are not easy right now," said Sarver, 27, an oil-rig worker from Jasper, Texas, who's married with two children. "This says I have work this year. It's a blessing."

Lambert, 27, of Los Angeles figures it's about time he owned his own home. Megan Joy, 23, from Sandy, Utah, is looking forward to a little personal space for her and her toddler.

"I get to finally move out of my mom's house," she said, gleefully.

Dates and tour locations have yet to be announced for the tour, which follows the show's May 20 finale. On this week's shows the contestants were set to perform Motown tunes.

What they'll be paid for the tour is kept under wraps by producers. Even the contestants were uncertain a week after making the cut.

"I keep hearing that it's plenty," said Kris Allen, 23, of Conway, Ark. "That's nice."

Of course, there's more than money at stake — the chance to connect with fans and to build a career are the real plums, the finalists said.

"It still seems like a dream. ... I can't wait to see what I learn doing it," said Matt Giraud, 23, of Kalamazoo, Mich.

The tour is "an amazing opportunity," agreed Anoop Desai, 22, of Chapel Hill, N.C., calling "American Idol" the "biggest stage and best stage of all."

The typical "Idol" concert swing lasts more than three months and includes 50 or 60 concerts, including stadiums. The contestants travel by bus.

"That's what I've been dreaming about since I was a little kid, is going on the road and playing night after night ... to share my music with whoever will listen to it. That's what I'm here to do," said Scott MacIntyre, 23, of Scottsdale, Ariz.

The finalists have bonded as housemates during the course of the TV show and expect the camaraderie — and the fun — to continue on tour, Lambert said.

Asked if he expects to be the demanding pop star, he laughed. "No, I take what I can get. I only like to play the part of the diva when I'm actually performing, but I don't like to act like that otherwise," he said.

Most expect to travel light, with cell phones and computers among the items mentioned as must-haves. Gokey, 28, of Milwaukee, whose wife died shortly before he auditioned for "American Idol," says his computer has "all my pictures on it. Basically, my whole life's on it."

The youngest finalist, 16-year-old Allison Iraheta of Downey, Calif., will be bringing along her schoolwork and maybe a parent.

"My mom might be going on tour with me, so it will be interesting," Iraheta said.

Lil Rounds, 24, of Memphis, Tenn., is hoping her husband and three children can visit her when the tour is close to home.

"The babies understand what I'm doing and they're proud," Rounds said.

She and her fellow contestants are just beginning to grasp their sudden shift in fortune.

"I went from singing at a church in front of maybe 70 to 80 people to a national tour. It's absolutely amazing," Rounds said.

For all the excitement the concert tour promises, the contestants want to believe it's just the start of something big.

"I'll definitely be sticking around, I hope, after all is said and done. I'm not stopping," said MacIntyre.

Gokey wants the same.

"It's so exciting to be on the road and fulfilling the dream that I've had. I'm hoping it's just the beginning," he said.

Guess Who? (Baby Pics)

AGE 1

"I was musical [as a kid]," says this singer from Milwaukee, "but I don't think I really understood I was good until my dad complimented me once [at age 12] – and it changed by life." Can you guess who he is?

DANNY GOKEY

"We would always sing with my family at church," says Gokey, 28, who lost his fiancée just weeks before auditioning for Idol. "I love my family, they mean a lot to me. They've always been supportive of me."

AGE 6

"My dad and my mom both love music," this singer says of his influences growing up. But for him, the love of the spotlight came first. "I liked to put on costumes. I thought capes were like the look." Can you guess who he is?

ADAM LAMBERT

He may not be wearing many capes these days, but Lambert, 27, does have a distinctively edgy look. "I get bored with my clothing and my image and I like to revamp it from time to time," he says.

It's going to be a guy this year

simon randy ryan seacrest american idol winnerSimon, Randy, and Ryan were on Jay Leno last night. When Jay asked if they knew who the winner was going to be, all three agreed that it would be a guy this year, and Simon said "Danny, Adam, Little Rounds.." hehe. So all three wrote down on a card who they think will win it all and Jay is going to keep the cards and bring whoever wins on the show to see if any of them were right. Here's a video of that clip:

Remember Bikini Girl?

I'm sure no one has forgotten Katrina "Bikini Girl" Darrell from this year's American Idol auditions. She was recently spotted at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas. In this video, she talks about Danny Gokey being a nice guy and about Adam Lambert being gay. Check it out!

If they could pick their own themes...

Here's a video of the top 13 saying which theme week they would choose if given the option.

EW Top 10 Power Rankings

Adam is number one in the Entertainment Weekly Power rankings for this week, and Danny is number three.
1. Adam Lambert: (Last week: No. 1) Whether you loved or hated his sitar-infused, hyper-theatrical, sexytimes-with-the-camera rendition of "Ring of Fire," chances are it evoked a strong feeling and got you talking. (Then again, you could've said the same for Constantine Maroulis at this point in season 4.) Still, add Adam's undeniable buzz to the fact that his "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction" and "Black or White" sent the judges into fits of rapture, and he remains the front-runner -- for now, anyway.
3. Danny Gokey: (Last week: No. 3) The judges flipped for his "P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing)," but Randy and Kara were a tiny bit more critical of his "Jesus Take the Wheel," which wobbled during the verses, and got overbaked on the chorus. (Maybe he should've sung "The Spectacles of Many Colors"?) Motown Week should be right in his wheelhouse, but he needs to heed the judges' constructive criticism to avoid a backslide.

"Ring of Fire by Adam Lambert" by Daryl Elliott

My friend just provided me with many giggles while listening to him record his version of "Ring of Fire" as sung by Adam Lambert.
Click here to download his version! Let him know what you think in the comments. I promise you won't be disappointed.

Boys Better Than Girls?

Alexis Grace's elimination rehashes an intriguing American Idol conspiracy theory. Crush-object boys are more likely to succeed on the show than their female rivals due to an aggressive, teenybopper voter base.

This trend was glaring last season, when then-contestants Jason Castro, David Cook, Michael Johns and David Archuleta received exponentially more fan mail than the girls that year.

However, the Tiger Beat effect does not trickle down to post-Idol careers as the show's alumna (Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Jordin Sparks) have had far better luck in their careers than the boys (Ruben Studdard, Taylor Hicks, David Cook) after the Idol spotlight fades.

Will this years boys be more successful than this years girls? As much as I love Allison and Megan, I don't think they will do nearly as well as say... Adam or Danny! Post your thoughts in the comments!

Live from Detroit

Eight out of the ten remaining American Idol finalists arrived in Detroit this morning for a mentoring session with Motown legends Berry Gordon Jr and Smokey Robinson. (It appears that Megan Joy and Michael Sarver stayed behind in LA).
Gordy told reporters that he was "not going to talk about singing" and that he was "going to talk about them as people".
Matt Giraud, Lil Rounds, and Anoop Desai received the most attention from fans. (Matt does look kinda scared in this picture)
The footage from Studio A will air next Wednesday night on Fox!

Top 10 Results are in!

Allison Iraheta, Michael Sarver, and Alexis Grace were the bottom three vote getters this week. Once all three were gathered in the middle of the stage, Ryan Seacrest told Allison to go sit down because she was safe. A few commercials and musical performances later, Michael was pronounced safe, and Alexis was informed that the judges were considering using the save on her.. she sang "Jolene" once again and Simon said, "It was good.. but not good enough." The save was not used, and Alexis is gone.. This means that the Top 10 Tour will be 7 guys and 3 girls. How do you feel about the lineup? Are you disappointed to see Alexis leave? I know I was a bit worried when Ryan had Adam and Alexis stand together before he told Adam he was safe and Alexis that she was in the bottom three. Post your thoughts in the comments and be sure to vote in the updated poll for who you think will be sent home next week.

Next Week's Theme: Motown!

The ten contestants remaining after tonight's episode of American Idol will head to the Motown Historical Museum in Detroit tomorrow. Berry Gordy Jr. and Smokey Robinson will mentor them through a series of Hitsville song selections.
American Idol's return to Detroit will be another addition to Motown's 50th anniversary celebration that is happening this year.
These Motown themed episodes will air on March 25 & 26 (Wednesday and Thursday) because Obama wants to talk to America on Tuesday night. Thursday's show will feature a performance from Ruben Studdard, who will be singing his new single, "Together".

If you're like me, and not exactly sure what the heck "motown" really is... click here for more information.
